On the 7th and 8th of June, YSAFE was invited to participate in the EU Development Days (EDDs). EDDs are organized annually by the European Commission and this year 6000 people took part in the event. The goal of the event is to bring the global development community together to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing issues.
YSAFE participated with two contributions at the event. The first was a Jeopardy-style game of Sexuality Education, which took place in the Youth Lounge. The game was played twice during the two days. The purpose of the game was to raise awareness on some key challenges to the realization of sexual and reproductive health and rights in Europe and globally. At the same time, the game had the purpose of creating debates among the participants on the importance of young people having access to sexuality education.
The second was an exhibition of 17 photographs, called “Youth Across the Globe”, which displayed the 17 Sustainable Development Goals through the eyes and lives of young people. The exhibition explained the links between the sexual and reproductive health and rights and each of the 17 goals. The purpose of the exhibition was to illustrate how important and indispensable young people’s health and well-being are to the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as well as underline the importance of investing in the sexual and reproductive health of young people to obtain sustainable development.
The exhibition was a success and YSAFE received an invitation to present it again at the AIDEX Expo in Brussels this November. AIDEX Expo is the leading platform from professionals in humanitarian aid and international development and its purpose is to engage the sector in every level and provide an annual forum for professionals to meet, source, supply and learn.
